Welcome to Marilize du Plessis

My name is Marilize du Plessis and I am excited to join NHS as a mathematics teacher. I have been a day reliever at NHS since the start of 2020 and have enjoyed the time I have spent at the school. I am originally from South Africa and immigrated with my family to New Zealand in 2013. In South Africa I taught science and mathematics at Sutherland Combined School to ages 9 to 18. I also worked at the Southern African Large Telescope as an Education Officer, where I did science and mathematics related outreach work.
I completed a graduate diploma in teaching at University of Waikato in 2018 and have been working as a day reliever at multiple local schools since.
I believe my experience has equipped me with lots of knowledge and skills. I embrace the concepts of Whanaungatanga and Ako and am excited to grow and further develop my teaching practice. These are challenging times and the only way to get through it is to work together.
I look forward to getting to know you all better and to work with you and your whānau to enhance your learning.
