Outdoor Education

Kia ora, I'm Jamelia and I'm part of Outdoor Education at Ngaruawahia High School. I signed up for OE this year not quite knowing what I was getting myself into. I felt nervous about what was ahead and I didn't know if I had what it took to fully participate in the programme. Now, as I reflect on the past 9 months, I can honestly say that Outdoor Education has provided me with the confidence to know that I can achieve great things. That I can push myself beyond my limits and that I'm stronger than I ever thought. Through the experiences I have had in Outdoor Education I have discovered more about who I am and that the outdoors can provide me with connection and challenge. I have experienced righting a capsized waka on the awa. I have tramped and camped on the shores of the heated waters of Lake Tarawera. I have cycled along the Te Awa River Trail and snowboarded down the slopes of Ruapehu. Together, our classes have been to Raglan, Rotorua, Waihi, National Park, Auckland, and Pirongia. We have paddled, cycled, tramped, camped and carved through this year and we finish knowing we have seen more and experienced more than we ever have before. Nga mihi
